Industry 5.0 and the Future of Web-to-Print

The fifth industrial revolution goes far beyond digitalization. Industry 5.0 solutions are people-centered, sustainable, and resilient. They foster creativity and efficient resource management, and help companies overcome major challenges such as the shortage of skilled workers and dynamic market changes.

What does Industry 5.0 mean for the web-to-print industry? Here are the 5 trends that could shape the future of web-to-print software:

Creativity First

Industry 5.0 fosters creativity. The main idea is to have machines handle repetitive tasks while employees focus on creative aspects and strategic decisions. In web-to-print software, functions such as quality control, workflows, and preflight checks run smoothly in the background, allowing users to focus on design, aesthetics, and concepts.

People-centered processes

Industry 5.0 solutions are not only innovative, but also flexible and scalable. Integration with digital systems such as PIM, ERP, and media asset management enables data exchange and real-time collaboration between clients and production teams. Users can provide feedback and make adjustments, with the system helping them adhere to quality guidelines. As the team grows and tasks and workflows become more complex, the solution flexibly adapts to the new requirements. This enables the company to achieve sustainable growth and helps minimize expenses.

Mass Customization

Industry 5.0 focuses on the customer as an individual. Web-to-print software enables companies to offer personalized products as well as powerful and user-friendly tools. Customers have the opportunity to create products that meet their needs and preferences. Whether it’s personalized packaging, marketing materials, custom promotional items, or personalized gifts—the web-to-print solutions of the future offer an intuitive, user-friendly interface with design options that are easy to implement.

AI Integration

The automation of routine tasks remains a key aspect of Industry 5.0, boosting both productivity and precision. Web-to-print solutions use artificial intelligence to automate production workflows and optimize layouts. This helps highlight creative possibilities and reduce human error. AI can generate content, recommend design elements, and personalize the customer experience.

Sustainability

Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the industrial landscape. Web-to-print platforms help companies optimize their use of resources. With on-demand printing, companies can avoid excess production and thus reduce waste, contributing to a more sustainable supply chain. Automated preflight checks ensure high quality standards and reduce human error.

As technologies and trends continue to evolve, businesses of all sizes can benefit from efficient and more environmentally friendly web-to-print solutions. Industry 5.0 paves the way for future-proof, people-centric, agile, and sustainable web-to-print solutions that meet the demands of a dynamic market.

The New Frontier of Interactive Design

The New Level of Interactive Design:

Web-to-Print with GLB files

The printformer Editor offers a real-time 3D view that allows users to visualize and design simultaneously. In addition to the x3d 3D format, printformer now also supports GLB files. The GLB format is an efficient solution for improving product presentation and taking the personalization of print products to a new level.

  • Realistic 3D view

  • Intuitive and quick design
  • Optimized for web applications

Realistic product presentation

GLB files allow printed products to be viewed in 3D, giving customers a realistic idea of what the final product will look like. This feature is particularly helpful when personalizing packaging and products such as mugs, T-shirts, or 3D cards. With the rissc printformer 3D Preview, your customers can immediately see how their design looks on the product—from various angles.

Interactive Product Design

The GLB format enables interactive product visualization and displays all customizations in real time. The GLB format’s high compatibility with various platforms and devices, including AR applications, makes it particularly flexible and accessible. The GLB format is therefore a valuable tool for increasing customer loyalty and maximizing revenue.

Shorter loading times

GLB files are more compact than other 3D formats such as FBX or OBJ and are optimized for web applications. They can be efficiently integrated into online printing portals without slowing down loading times, ensuring a smooth user experience—especially on mobile devices, which are increasingly being used for online purchases.

Consistent quality

GLB files support Physically Based Rendering (PBR). Material properties (such as light reflections, textures, and surface texture) are rendered realistically, which accurately reflects how the product appears in real life and helps users make informed purchasing decisions.

New customization options

With GLB files, customers can customize their designs not only in 2D but also in 3D, such as by adding text or images to a 3D model. These files can help optimize personalization, particularly in the packaging and giftware industries.

Global Editing: Quickly Optimize Designs

Global Editing

Quickly optimize designs

With the new Global Editing feature, you can select and edit multiple blocks of a template at once. This makes it easy to optimize even complex designs with just a few clicks.

  • Clean and elegant designs

Align blocks

You can easily select text blocks, image blocks, and shapes together using the selection frame or the Shift key, and align them to the desired edge with a single click.

Move and delete blocks

The selected blocks can be moved, rotated, or deleted together. If any of the actions are not permitted for one or more blocks in the selection in the settings, only the controls that are available for all blocks will be active.

Change text formatting

For text blocks, you can adjust the font, font size, and other font properties all at once. The alignment of text blocks is based on the size of the text frame, not on the current text length. If the text frame is too large or too small for the new font, it must be adjusted manually so that the text block can be aligned correctly. Please note the “Text is truncated” message from the editor.

Adjust color and transparency

If multiple blocks of the same type are selected, you can adjust the color of text blocks and shapes, and the transparency of all blocks. If different settings are defined for the selected blocks, only the controls that are available for all blocks will be displayed.

Precise control for Imageblocks

Materials such as weekly menus, event schedulesor or promotional flyers often need to be updated. A printformer template can be updated by different users or teams across multiple locations. This increases the likelihood of human error, especially as your media database continues to grow. The new Image Tag feature is part of our Media Asset Management System, which enables precise control over image blocks.

Your benefits

  • User-friendly interface

  • Intuitive and quick design
  • Clean and elegant designs

You can use tags to specify what types of images or graphics can be placed in the image blocks. When the blocks are populated with system media, users can only use images that have the tag defined for that block. Whether printed or digital, your marketing materials and documents will always look consistent and professional.

Images of product categories

To prevent incorrect images from being placed in image blocks, you can use tags to define image categories—even within a single media set. This ensures that only images tagged with that specific tag can be placed in the blocks for which the tag is defined, such as only appetizers or only locations.

Images in landscape or portrait orientation

You can also use tags to specify the desired image format. This prevents portrait-oriented images from ending up in a landscape-oriented image block, which could cause layout errors.

Logos and decorative elements

You can also use tags to specify what types of graphics can be placed in image blocks. For example, this allows users to use only logos or only decorative elements.
